Juice Fast Day 3/ Day 16

So I usually drop in here periodically throughout the day and write what has gone on so far, that way I can keep my log fairly accurate but this was a crazy day and am not even finishing up writing and posting it until the next day so I'm sure some info is going to be off.

Slept from about 5pm til 1am.  Tried to get back to sleep and dozed a bit, but got up at 2:30am.  Went downstairs to make my "ginger shot":

1/2 golden delicious apple
1/2" ginger

Made 4oz and was about 3 when I was having it.

Then went on to make juice #1 for Day 3, "Berry Banana Crunch", Jason's recipe is 2 golden delicious apples, 1 cup mixed berries, 2 tbsp natural yogurt, 1/2 banana, 2 tbsp mixed seeds (sunflower, pumpkin, sesame, flaxseed) and ice.  He only juices the apples and the puts everything into the blender.

So I juiced 2 fuji apples and put that into the blender with"

1.2 oz blackberries
3 oz blueberries
3 oz raspberries
5 oz strawberries
2.5 oz of goats milk yogurt (had the most protein and least sugar I could find)

I put 1 tbsp each of the following seeds in a coffee grinder (chia, hemp, sunflower, pumpkin, sesame, and flax) and a used 1/2 the resulting mixture about 3tbsp.

Blended all this together with ice and it made 36 oz.  I really liked this one, it was thick, tasty, and filling.  I immediately went on to make my double batch of the next juice so I could take it with me.  I had some stuff I was going to do today.  The next juice was the "Green Refresher", Jason's recipe in 1 golden delicious apple, 1 pear, 1/4 medium cucumber, 1 1/2 cups spinach, 3/4" broccoli stem, 1 lime.  In my double batch I did:

2 granny smith apples
2 pears
4" cucumber
5 oz spinach
2" broccoli stem
2 limes

Made only 18oz because towards the end of my juicing, I somehow knocked over the juice container sending bright green liquid all over the place.  I cleaned up as best as I could, finished juicing and put the juice I was able to save in a container for later.  Then I really got down on my hands and knees and started scrubbing up the mess.  I have white tile with white grout and white cabinets and let me tell you trying to get up all that green liquid was a pain.  My grout is stained and I don't know if I'll ever completely get the green out.  Needless to say I was so discouraged and only had 1/2 the juice I was supposed to.
I was drinking my Berry Banana crunch all this time, so I was drinking it slowly and let me tell you those chia seeds really started to thicken up that drink.  I decided to forgo my errands and my walking got postponed.

It was about 10am when I got out my container of juice from earlier.  I actually ended up liking this one.  I'm glad I did the granny smith apples as there tartness really complemented this one.  Of course it's hard to tell if I got the right blend on this one.  I don't know about you guys, but when I'm juicing the juices tend to separate themselves until I shake them up in a pitcher prior to pouring in a glass, so when I knocked over the juice container I think I probably lost more of one type of juice than another.  Hard to say though.  It will be interesting to see if it tastes different the next time I make it.

At about 10:30am I headed over to my parents for the treadmill.  I did 3 min at incline 2/1.5mph and then 12 min at incline 5/1.5mph but my neck was really bothering me so I decided to head over to me chiropractor and get adjusted.  He leaves for lunch around 12:30 so I needed to go now rather than finish my workout.  The adjustment really helped and I got back to my parents about 12:30 and got back on the treadmill.   I did another 3 min @ 2/1.5mph then 30min @ 5/1.5mph and a final 3 min @ 2/1.5mph to cool down.  Then I headed home.

It was time to make another juice and the idea of making the green refresher again after having to clean up the mess did not appeal to me even though I liked the taste so I decided to make my grapefruit one again so:

2 grapefruit (yellow color removed)
1 orange (orange color removed)
6 oz raspberries

Made 26 oz.  It was just as good as last time and so refreshing after a workout.  I then had to head out to pick up my niece and get her to dance class.  Then I came back home.  I was pretty tired.  Cleaning up the mess earlier really took it out of me.  I decided to go read.  After reading for a bit I told myself I should get up and go make my final batch of juice for the day, Berry Banana Crunch again.  I was looking forward to tweaking it a bit.  Jason uses a centrifugal juicer and juicing berries is not recommended in one of these, but I have a masticating juicer and it does fine with berries, so this time I was going to see how it would work if I juiced the berries instead of blending them.  I was also going to leave out the yogurt as I'm a bit concerned about the dairy, plus I don't think it really needed it as it was already thick and creamy from the banana and the seeds.  But I fell asleep while reading sometime around 6pm. Oh well, on to the next day.

Juice Fast Day 2/ Day 15

So I slept okay, woke up a lot but was able to get back to sleep.  Slept from 2pm to 10pm and got out of bed at 11pm.  Made some hot water with lemon and a tsp of honey.  Made the "ginger shot" at 12:30am, this time I used:

1/2 golden delicious apple
1/2" ginger

made 4 oz

This was better, the ginger went with the golden delicious better than it did with the fuji from yesterday.  I'll use the other 1/2 of the apple tomorrow, but then I'm gonna try it with a granny smith apple, the tart might work with the ginger even better.

I then went on to make the 1st juice of day 2, the "Veggie Power", which is 2 golden delicious apples, 3/4 cup spinach, 3/4 cup kale, 1/2 lemon (unpeeled) 1/2 stalk celery, 1/4 medium cucumber, 3/4" of broccoli stem, 1/2 avocado, & ice.  I followed this one pretty close, but I did:

2 fuji apples
1.5 oz spinach
1.5 oz kale
1/2 lemon (yellow color removed)
1/2 stalk celery
2" cucumber
1" broccoli stem
1/2 avocado & 1 cup ice (blended into juice)

Made 32 oz.  This was good, not as good as the Turbo juice yesterday, I missed the pineapple, but still good.  I got more apples today, and bought both fuji and golden delicious, so when I made this later I tried it with the golden delicious.  It was about 1:30amby the time I was drinking this.

At 4:00am I started working on my double batch of juice for #2 & #3, "Ruby Tuesday" which is, 1/4 medium pineapple, 2 carrots, 1 small beet, 1 thin slice ginger (how ever in his how to video he used a big chunk), & 4 sprigs basil.  What I made was (double batch):

1/2 pineapple
4 carrots
1 red cabbage
1/2" ginger
1 oz basil

This made 44 oz so 22 now and 22 later.

I had red cabbage before I decided to do this plan and didn't want it to go to waste and I found online that it's a good substitute for beet for people who don't like, or can't have beet.  Of course, I'm also still gun shy from my beet juice disaster a couple years ago.  Next time I go shopping for the next 5 day cycle I will go ahead and get beets so it will be interesting to see the taste difference between red cabbage and beets.

5am by the time I was drinking the juice.  I am not liking this one at all.  Still not as bad as some of the ones I made before, but not enjoyable.  Even the smell of this one is getting to me.  I think I used too much cabbage and I think it would be better if I had the beet.  I figured 1/2 cabbage per beet but I probably should have done 1/4 cabbage per beet.  Also, I'm on to my second pineapple and this one isn't as ripe as the last one so I don't think I'm getting enough sweetness from that, in fact I can't even taste it.   I will say it's a very pretty burgundy color. I was so NOT looking forward to having to drink this juice again in a few hours.  Had a tough enough time finishing the one glass.

At 7:45am I headed over to my parents for the treadmill.  It took forever to get over there, traffic was crazy with everyone going to work and school.  I'm not used to being out and about that early.  So I did almost the same thing as yesterday 2.0 incline @ 1.5mph for 3 min, but 5.0 incline @ 1.5mph for only 27 min and then 2.0 incline @ 1.5mph for 3 min.  I was planning to do the full 30 but my hips started to bother me and today is also my gym day so I cut it short.  Probably a good idea as I felt lightheaded after stopping for a few minutes.  Afterwards I headed over to Sam's club cause I was almost out of apples.  Surprisingly enough they didn't have golden delicious, only fuji, gala, and red delicious.  Thought about getting the gala but figured I should probably stick with the fuji since I know what I'm getting.  Also picked up some grapefruit and more raspberries.  Jason doesn't use grapefruit in any of his drinks, but I thought it would make a nice light drink for when I want more juice.  Jason's plan allows you a cheat (avocado, banana, or one of his juice bars) but I know from expierence that it just leads to more temptation.  Once you start allowing yourself to eat food it's a slippery slope.  Plus I'm a bit concerned that I'm getting too much fiber.  I know, totally backward from normal.  But one of the reasons people say to do a juice fast as opposed to a smoothie fast is because in getting rid of all the insoluble fiber you give your digestive track a break allowing you body to focus on other things.  Well with Jason's plan he has you adding avocados, bananas, and one drink he blends berries instead of juicing them and also adds seeds to it, so I'm already worried about all that fiber so I certainly don't want to add more.  I did send an e-mail to Jason (or his team, not sure who reads it) so we'll see what he says if he gets back to me.  So I decided to just add one more juice if I really need it.

Finally got back home at 9:30am and let me tell you my house SMELLS!  Thank you cabbage.  Don't know if I'm gonna juice cabbage again.  I might go ahead and get some beats before it's time to do another red drink, think that's on day 5.  As if the smell weren't bad enough I'm also having to drink the second half of the cabbage drink.  I only filled my glass (about 16 oz) and dumped the rest out.  Just couldn't do a refill this time.

So I knew I needed more juice but wasn't ready to make the final juice of the day and I didn't have time to make it so I made:

2 grapefruit (yellow removed)
1 orange (orange removed)
6 oz raspberries

Made about 32 oz.  YUMMY YUMMY YUMMY!

At 11:30am I took about 26 oz with me in my bottle and headed out to my doctors appt. and from there I went to the gym.  The gym I go to is not a normal gym.  I'm really tired right now though, so I'll explain it to you all tomorrow.  On the way home from the gym I stopped at Stater Bros. and picked up some golden delicious apples, some beets, and some ice (my ice maker is broken)  Got home about 3pm.

It's about pm now, and I'm supposed to be making my final juice of the day, my second dose of "Veggie Power" which I was really looking forward to.  But I am so tired I can't imagine making a juice right now.  If I just had to run the juicer I'd probably do it, but I still need to wash and cut up everything.  There's got to be an easier way to prep for this ahead of time.  I wondering if on Saturday or Sunday (which ever day I have more time) I should wash almost everything I need for the week, cut it up, so it's all ready to go and put in a Foodsaver bag and take out all the air.  I wonder if the veggies would still keep okay or if they'd get all weird and wilty.  So I finished off the rest of my grapefruit drink and now I'm just trying to stay awake as long as I can.  Definitely need to stay awake til 4, but 5 or 6 would be even better.  Maybe I'll get a second wind and be able to go make my juice.  My stomach is really starting to bother me, the gas and bloating are coming back.  I hope it's just the cabbage and once it's through me I'll feel better again.

As you can see from my stats I haven't lost any weight today, but I still haven't had a BM since Denny's and I'm also probably retaining water again because of all the sodium that was in that meal.

Well, I'm fading...

Juice Fast Day 1/Day 13&14 (lost a day somewhere)

So, as you can see from my title this is the end of day 13 of my juice fast, but it is also the end of day 1.  I was so bad last night.  After blogging last night and talking about going and making some green juice I went to Denny's instead.  I've been having cravings for lots of stuff, but mainly pizza and eggs.  I know this is mostly just my lack of willpower and also the fact that perhaps I didn't make a true commitment.  I thought I had, but considering I started cheating a little bit more each day, starting on day 7, I guess I really hadn't committed fully.  So I really wanted pizza, but if I was going to bother with pizza, I wanted the best, and of course it being the middle of the night, my favorite pizza place (Chi Chi's) was closed.  So the thing I was craving second most was eggs, hence Denny's.  So I got to Denny's and was gonna go all out, "I mean if your gonna cheat, then do it big time", my little devil said, "Have a milkshake and a soda with your eggs, get the mozzarella sticks too!"  But luckily my better side asserted itself and I stuck with eggs, hash-browns, bacon, and iced tea.  Yes I know, not great, but certainly better than what I was tempted to order.  Now I will say, that unlike the cheese or goldfish crackers that I had cheated with previously, this did taste amazing.  It really did hit the spot, but I felt terrible for doing it.  Before, during and after eating.

Now I'm not trying to make excuses or pardon myself or anything, but I think this was inevitable.  I wasn't getting enough juice and was therefore hungry.  I just couldn't stomach the mean green no matter what changes I made.  Yes, I know I could have made other juices, but I was afraid of getting too much fruit.  I was already making a very fruity juice first thing in the morning and felt I should be doing the mean green later in the day but could never finish enough of it.

So when I got home from Denny's I was still wide awake, after all I'd only been awake for about 14 hours.  I felt so discouraged and angry with myself.  I really wanted to do this juice thing because I believe in the science behind it and have been so inspired by other peoples results: Joe Cross of Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead and Mia Sansom from her YouTube channel GFveganlife to name a few.  So I started doing more research.  I had watched several other documentaries a few days ago (Forks over Knives, Hungry for Change, and Food Matters) so I started looking up some of the people from those and found Jason Vale the JUICE MASTER and got a couple of his books and his iphone app 5 lbs in 5 days.  After looking at some of this information I have decided to really commit this time and use this program.  His juice recipes seem a little more palatable.  They have lots of different veggies but not tons of them, instead of 4 stalks of celery it's like 1/2 a stalk, instead of a whole bunch of kale, it's like 1/2 cup of kale.  He gives you 10 recipes for the 5 days, so I decided to go ahead and do the 5 days as exact as I can (assuming I can find everything) and see how it goes.  Then after the 5 days, I'll continue on and substitute if I find I don't like a particular juice.  I also have his "Turbo Charge Your Life in 14 Days" and "Juice Yourself Slim" books that I still need to read, so he'll probably have some more juice ideas in there.

I'm feeling a bit more optimistic.  I know I may run into the same problem of not liking the juice, but I hope not.  He also broke it down into a bit more of a plan which I like.  I was making big batches of juice before, like 40 oz plus, and sipping throughout the day, and I have to admit that by the end of a batch of even one of the juices I like, I was getting sick of the flavor.  I know this means I'll have to juice and clean my juicer more often, or store my juice for longer (of course I was taking so long to drink the juice this may not be any different) but this sounds better to me.  I guess I will find out.

So I stayed awake until about 10am and then slept until 7pm.  I got up and double checked all my produce and then went to Whole Foods for the few things that I was missing.  It took me forever since I don't go there very often and a lot of the things I was buying are things I've never bought so I really wasn't sure what they even looked like.  But I managed to get everything I needed and headed home to make my first juice.  Now Jason wants you to wait a couple hours after waking before you have your first juice.  I'm going to try it for now, but its seems wrong to me.  Everything I've ever heard said you should have your first meal within 30 minutes of waking so we'll see.

So you're supposed to start the day with something he calls a "ginger shot" which is 1/2 a golden delicious apple and a large chunk (at least 3/4") of ginger.  Well ginger and I don't get along all that great and I was afraid to put something that strong on an empty stomach so at 9:30pm I made:

1 fuji apple
1/2" piece of ginger

It made 8oz which is a bit more juice than it's supposed to be, but that's to be expected since I used the whole apple.  It was okay, tomorrow I'll try it with only 1/2 and apple and the same amount of ginger and see if I can handle it.  I'm also going to use a different kind of apple (granny smith or golden delicious and see how that turns out)

I then went directly into making my 1st main juice of the day without washing the juicer.  He calls it the "Turbo with a Kick" and uses 2 golden delicious apples, 1/4 medium pineapple, 1/2 cup spinach, 1/2 lime (peeled), 1/2 stalk celery, 1 1/4" piece cucumber, 1/2" ginger, 1/4 avocado, ice

I made:

2 fuji apples
1/4 pineapple
1 oz spinach
1/2 lime (green color removed)
1/2 stalk celery
2" piece cucumber (slightly peeled)
1/2" ginger

and juiced all that, then I put the juice, 1/2 avocado (it was small), and some ice in my vitamix and blended it together.  It made 40 oz.

It was 10:30pm by the time I was drinking my juice after clean up and everything.  It still takes me a while to prep all the produce, juice and clean up, but I am slowly getting better at it.  I really liked this drink, can't taste my nemesis, the celery, at all.  I could drink this one no problem.  Best "green" drink I've had so far.  I have it again later today and this time I will try it with golden delicious apples like it called for and see how I like it.

So at 1:30 am I went to make my next juice, the "Natural Energizer", in which Jason puts, 1/4 medium pineapple, 3/4 cup spinach, 1/4 medium cucumber, 1/2 medium zucchini, 1/2" fennel, 15 sugar snap peas, 1/2 lime (unpeeled).  You drink this juice now and again in about 3 hours so I made a double batch and did:

1/2 pineapple
3 oz spinach
7" cucumber (slightly peeled)
.5 oz fennel (I don't tend to like licorice flavor so I was afraid to put in too much)
1/2 large zucchini
40 sugar snap peas
1 lime (green color removed)

made approx 34 oz of juice.

It was 2:45am by the time I was drinking this juice after clean up. I had trouble making this juice.  In the past I've had trouble with strings from the pineapple and spinach getting caught up in my juicer so this time I cut them up into small pieces before putting them in the juicer but I didn't even think about the stringiness of the sugar snap peas.  I was about 2/3 of the way through the peas when I realized my pulp chute was all backed up.  So I stopped juicing and took apart my juicer and unclogged it as best as I could, cut the remaining peas up really small and continued juicing.  I didn't want to wash everything off and lose a lot of stuff.  I always run my juice back through the juicer a second time because the Omega VRT makes a pulpier juice than I like, but if you run it through again it turns out great.  While I was running the juice back through again, the pulp chute got clogged again so I had to take it apart again.  So for the first time ever I ran the juice through a third time, just to make sure the clogged pulp chute didn't send any extra pulp into the juice.  So needles to say, by the time I got everything cleaned up, this juice took forever and it was almost 3am.  At least the 2nd batch is already made for when I drink it again later.  Lesson learned about sugar snap peas.

I don't really care for this juice.  It's certainly not as bad as any of the "mean green" concoctions I was trying to make before but it's not something I'd ever say I liked or looked forward to.  However, with all of my problems making it, I'm not sure it turned out right, plus I modified his recipe a bit.  So I will make it again, and the next time I do (in 5 days) I will make sure to cut up the peas really small, I will use only 30 peas instead of 40 and I might try a bit more fennel, I couldn't taste even a hit of it this time.

So, at 5:30am I had my second serving of the "Natural Energizer" juice.  I was so late drinking my earlier juice (3 instead of 1-1:30) that I postponed this juice to 5:30 instead of 4-4:30.  I have to say, I like this juice even less the second time around.  Still better than my "green" drinks, but had a tough time getting the rest of this one down.  Like I said, I'll give this drink one more try with the correct recipe and hopefully no malfunctions but if it doesn't change drastically I'll have to sub another juice is this spot or find something to add or take away from this one to make it more palatable.

At 8:45am I headed over to my parents house to use their treadmill.  I really need to get more cardio and there's no time like the present.  I started at a 2.0 incline at 1.5mph for 3 min, went to a 5.0 incline at 1.5mph for 30 min, and then back to 2.0 at 1.5mph for 3 min.  I was gonna do 60 min but figured for day one I should probably take it a little bit easy.  I felt great afterwards and knew I could keep going but the real test will be how I feel tomorrow.  Now I kept the treadmill at 1.5mph, but sometimes I was doing long slow strides and others I was doing short quick strides, so I did very my speed.  Basically I had pandora running in the background and walked in tome to the music.

Got back around 10:30am and immediately started making my final juice for the day.  It was the "Turbo with a Kick" juice that we had this morning.  This time when I made it I used golden delicious apples instead of fuji and I added 1.0oz of dandelion greens (I already had those from before I switched plans) This time it made about 44oz and even with my small changes it tasted the same as far as I could tell.  Of course what's important is that it was good.  Had the juice about 11:30am

Now it's 1:30pm and I'm having my chamomile tea before bed.  Yes I know my sleep schedule is screwy but remember I've been up since 7pm yesterday, so 18.5 hours at this point and I'm not asleep yet.  I felt really good today on my day 1 of the new plan.  Way better than I've felt in the previous 13 juice days.  I had a few moments of hunger, but with my awful schedule at the moment I've been letting a bit too much time go between juices.  I'm working on fixing my schedule but it will take time.  I really liked the one juice and the other was drinkable so I had no problem drinking all my juice and I got in plenty of water.  Of course it probably helped that I was awake and out of bed for so many hours too.

I had:

118oz of juice
96oz of water (plus I have more that I take to bed with me)
14oz herbal tea

So way better than I've done any other day.  I'm still a tiny bit burpy and bloated but almost so little that it's not worth mentioning.  Hopefully it will stay that way or go away completely.  Well, of to bed.  Here's hoping I get a nice 8 hours.  Looking forward to day 2!

I'm actually really surprised that these turned out so good considering my meal at Denny's.  I haven't had a BM since then so that means that food is still inside my system and I still managed to lose.

Juice Fast Day 12

Some days I just don't get myself.  So after just saying to myself that I was allowing myself 3 snacks if I just had to eat something, I went and ate cheese again.  NOT one of the 3 snack!  There I was again at 3am, still awake and hungry.  I know I'm not getting enough juice.  I knew I should have celery and almond butter or 1/2 and avocado, but fruits and veggies just didn't sound good.  Yes I know it's an excuse and I guess that's what I get for giving myself an out.  So it was 8am before I got to sleep, and 2pm before I got up.  So I went down stairs and had some water and started watching TV (I have a bunch of old Dr. Oz shows taking up room on my DVR) and procrastinating making my juice.

Finally I made:

1 fuji apple
2 pears
1/2 very large zucchini
8 oz strawberries
6 oz blackberries
3 oz spinach (decided to start weighing it as handful was a bit vague, however this was more spinach than I had been putting in)

Made a bit more than 40 oz.

Have had about 64 oz water so far and finished off the juice above.  Course I've only been up since 2pm.  I suppose I should go make myself some green juice, but I still don't like it so of course I'm procrastinating again.

Day 11 of the Juice Fast

So, I was so bad last night and I hate myself for doing it and I'm paying for it today.  After having just talked about having cheese the night before and it not being worth it, I had an even worse snack tonight.  I was still awake at 3am, my stomach was rumbling and I had a headache.  Who makes juice at 3am?  So I had some goldfish crackers.  This morning I woke up and my face and neck are swollen and I have a bit of a rash on my cheeks, neck, and chest.  I suppose it could be a coincidence, but I don't think so.  I think it was the crackers. So, to stop this crazy and stupid cheating, I have given myself permission to have either celery with almond butter, 1/2 an avocado, or a couple vine ripe tomatoes.  I know I shouldn't have anything and should stick to just the juice but I figure these items are certainly better than cheese or crackers, plus I am having some issues with dry skin so I figure the fat from the almond butter or the avocado should help.  We shall see.  I'm going to try my best not to have any snacks, but for right now while I'm having such a hard time at night when I can't sleep I figure this is a better compromise.  Hopefully I'll start sleeping and this won't be an issue much longer.

So this morning I made:

3 oranges (orange color peeled off)
6 large carrots
2 zucchini
1.5 large handfuls of spinach (would have put more but was out)
2 large handfuls of arugula
3 stalks of italian parsley

Made 40 oz.  It was okay, I'm noticing I'm not really a carrot juice fan which is weird since I love carrots.  Kind of like I love celery but have had to drop it from the green juice.

Later I made:

4 oranges (orange color peeled off)
1 lemon (yellow color peeled off)
1 cucumber (peeled)
3 large stalks of kale
8 romaine leaves
4 stalks of parsley
NO CELERY!!!

Made 40 oz.  When I first started drinking it I was thinking it was okay.  Taking the celery out did the trick, but as I drank more and more the parsley was getting stronger and stronger.  I was only able to drink 24 oz and had to dump the rest out as it was making me nauseous.  So tomorrow no celery and no parsley.  Fingers crossed!!

Today I had:

64 oz juice
70 oz water

So once again, not enough juice.  When I dumped out the rest of the green juice I thought about making another batch, but I'm tired and head-achy, and my juicer is all scrubbed up for the day.  Hopefully I'll sleep and won't need a snack.  We shall see.

Bloating an burping were better today but not gone.  When I got up this morning I was fine.  The whole time I was making juice I was fine.  Almost immediately after my first sip of juice I started burping.  I'm beginning to wonder if this is more of any anxiety response than a digestion problem.

Juice Fast Day 10

So Day 10 didn't start so great.  I couldn't sleep last night, it was 2 am, my stomach was rumbling and achy, I was still bloated and gassy, and I had a headache.  So I decided to eat something.  I should have stuck with the celery and almond butter but I gave in to temptation and I had some string cheese.  I didn't taste as good as I thought it would and I payed for it today with some weight gain.  Not a lot, but enough to remind me that it's not worth it.

So today I made:

1 apple
3 pears
6 oz blueberries
3 large handfuls of spinach

Made 40 oz.  It was good.  The pears were really ripe so it didn't strain out as much pulp from them and as a result it was a slightly thicker juice but I didn't mind the consistency.

Then I made:

1 large sweet potato (yam)
2 oranges (with orange color peeled off)
1/4 pineapple
3 large handfuls of spinach

Made 30 oz.  I think this is the best drink I've made so far.  I could have put in a bunch more greens and I bet it would still taste great.  Need to get more pineapple before I can make it again.

So:

70 oz juice
70 oz water

Doing better with the liquid and I wasn't as bloated and burpy today.  Hopefully that continues.  I also know I'm probably doing too much fruit right now, but it's a work in progress.

I'm still trying hard not to get discouraged because I want to keep doing this.  I've seen other people get really great results and I think if I can just keep going a bit longer it will work.  I think it would be easier if even one aspect was working, ie. losing weight but feel like crap or not losing but feel amazing.  It's tough when you feel awful and aren't losing.  Hopefully I'm just a slow starter.

Juice Fast Day 9

So today was a bit better than yesterday.  I woke up a little after midnight, and got up about 1.  Went down stairs and made my juice.  I took the juice I bought at Robek's yesterday and the I made:

4 oranges (with orange color peeled off)
8 romaine leaves
1/2 bunch italian parsley
celery (not sure how much cause it was the center of the bunch so it was lots of small pieces but much less than I had put in last time)

I combined this with the cucumber, apple, lemon, ginger from yesterday and had about 70 oz of juice.  I would say this is probably my best green juice so far.  I was able to drink it all but I still don't like it.  So, tomorrow I am going to try no celery and see if that fixes my problem.  Maybe I'm wrong and it's not the celery at all.  We shall see.  I did lay down around 9zm for a couple hours of sleep.  I know I shouldn't cause I don't do well with naps but I had a bad headache so I just had to.  Almost midnight and I am tired so hopefully I'll sleep tonight and day 10 will be my break out day.  The bloating and gas was a bit better today but still there.  Also the weight still isn't coming off like I thought it would.  My overall # is pretty good, but the weight loss since starting the juicing isn't even 4.5 lbs.  I'm afraid the problem is that I'm not getting enough juice but if the bloating doesn't go away I don't know how I could drink much more.  Oh well, I'm still planing to stick with it so hopefully that will change.  See you all tomorrow.
